2011 Spring New York Fashion Week: Z Spoke

For Zac Posen's Spring '11 Z Spoke debut, we had high hopes — and this is a collection that delivers all the goods we could ask for. It's fun, fresh, signature Posen doing what he does best: eclectic colours, prints, and maxi dresses cut with flair. We love the unexpected pairings; juxtaposed lacy bra tops layered over casual separates, flirtatious, corseted, cutout day long maxi dresses, suits, even Crystal Renn in ruffled bloomers. It's all a little retro-whimsical;  he even pulls out a showstopper and totally surprises: a sleek black, cutout maxi that delivers something a little futuristic. Vibrant and deliciously girly!

Mara Hoffman Swim Hit the Runway in Miami at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim

New York, NY, July 19, 2010 -New York based ready-to-wear & swimwear designer Mara Hoffman wowed Miami this year with her "Mara Hoffman Swim" fashion show, which took place on July 17th during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim event at the Raleigh Hotel.

This season, Hoffman's muse goes on a mystical journey through the jungle, visiting crystal caves, rivers, oceans; a tongue-in-cheek Amazonian tribeswoman in a bikini following her White Horse spirit guide. This translated into a variety of unique silhouettes and eye-catching, bold and colorful prints, including a psychedelic "Batik", "Mystic" (geometric, with crystal shapes and the All Seeing Eye), "Crystal Collage" (colorful kaleidoscope with dark and light crystals), "Chief" (Native American influence), "Jungle" (African influence) and "Odyssey" (fluid lines, lighter colors).
In addition to original prints, the collection includes solid colors ranging from White, Red (new color for Swim), Highlighter (bright yellow), Mint, Neon Pink and Black. New shapes and styles are introduced, including a 4-strap bikini with strings and beads, an under-wire bustier, a sexy new one-piece with a deep neckline and cinched bow detailing, a twisted bandeau top shown with fold-over bottom with side tie, and a high-waist solid bottom with side criss-cross lattice detailing, shown with matching twisted bandeau. Lattice detailing is prevalent throughout the collection. A popular new embroidery detail is also introduced, adding Mara's signature flair to solid color styles, as well as a sexy mono-kini with black & white embroidery on the diamond shaped center panel.

For beach-to-night offerings, Hoffman's range includes a new convertible cotton jersey halter dress, which can be worn 3 different ways - as a bandeau dress, halter dress or skirt. A black modal jersey maxi dress with embroidery detail is also included, as well as a long fitted stretchy racer-back dress and a mini-dress with open back detail and lattice design, printed chiffon cover-ups and modal jersey cover-ups (in washable fabrics, easily worn also as night-time dresses) and the all-time favorite printed spandex leggings that can be worn for layering or as pants. She is also introducing a fabulous new printed canvas weekender beach bag with brown leather detailing.

For the first time, Hoffman has partnered with Alternative Apparel, known for their vintage soft tees and basics, for a special mini-collaboration for the show. VIP guests, including singer Ana Cristina, model Tori Praver and actor Brandon Mychal, received an exclusive custom tee in the Burnout Baseball style, designed with the "Crystal Collage" artwork. She also created a "Mara Hoffman for Alternative Apparel" poncho with a faded pastel version of the "Chief" print made in Alternative's ultra soft and cozy Eco-Fleece fabric, perfect for late night campfires after the beach, which debuted on the runway.

Miss India Worldwide takes a Canadian participant - Miss India-Canada!

Miss India Worldwide will be held in Holland in 2011. Canadian participation is absolutely guaranteed because of the huge Indo-Canadian population. The event was held in Mississauga on July 16th. There were participants from all over Canada but most were from the GTA - heart of diverse immigrant residence. As diverse is the Indian population structure is in India, so are the Indo-Canadians. This diversity was visible in the 10 participants of the 20th annual pageant held at Mississauga Convention Centre.

There was glamour, fashion, style, trends, passion, anticipation and jubilation throughout the event. Beauty was an aspect of the pageant, but it was the incredible talent and personality exhibited by these glamorous and stylish ladies who have set their sights on bigger things than just a tiara. These ladies are involved in community events, charity organizations and fulfilling their personal dreams of careers and education.
The event started off with a classically spicy and sumptuous dinners served in a buffet-style. Food was catered by The Host and it was very delicious - well, if the event is going to be colourful and glamorous, why not have the food to accentuate that feeling. Then was the introduction to the participants - dressed in white-ish dresses. Chunri Creations and Bombay Trendz provided the clothing and accessories - for participants and for the fashion models. The up close view of the catwalk - sans 300 photographers cramped in a 4'x4' box was a wonderful experience. There was no unnecessary objections by the security about taking pictures either and the paparazzi feel was provided by a fair number of hobbyist event guests kept the momentum and environment going.
The show of talent in the next round was widely cheered for. There were classical Indian dances, contemporary English singing and fusion of east and west music. The bollywood was a huge part of these section. Half of the competitors were eliminated after this round. However, the real interest was the display of human side of the pageant competitors in the Q & A section. The questions to obtain the views of the participant ladies ranged from the recent GTA/G8/G20 violent protests to the third world's poor state. The talent ladies provided with a very different view on these topics - more sensitive and practical approach than most of us would if asked the same questions - specially in front of roughly 500 guests and media presence. But it all came down to the selection of the Miss Photogenic, Miss Congeniality, 1st and 2nd runner up and Miss India-Canada. Miss Sarah Hatton was declared Miss Photogenic. Miss Safina Adatia and Miss Bryn Dhir were the runner-ups while Miss Minu Jose got the honour of representing Indo-Canadian fans at Miss India Worldwide event - 2011.

Interest-rate impact likely next year: 3% by mid-2011 could affect buyers

(Source: Bangkok Post)trackingBy Pornnalat Prachyakorn, Bangkok Post, ThailandJuly 19--Thailand's property market should start to feel an impact next year when the keyinterest rate is expected to hit 3%, according to Samma Kitsin, the director-general of the Real Estate Information Center (REIC).
Mr Samma said the recent increase in the Bank of Thailand's short-term interest rate by 0.25 percentage points was small and would have a negligible impact on the property market.
The central bank last week raised its one-day policy rate for the first time in two years to 1.5%. Local banks have already begun to respond with minor increases in lending and deposit rates.
The property market is expected to remain calm until the end of the year despite a tendency of the interest rate to rise further.
"Interest rates could be increased at least twice more through the end of the year, but likely in a gradual fashion," Mr Samma said.
The next increase could come at the Oct 20 Monetary Policy Committee meeting, followed by another at the Dec 1 meeting. The policy rate is likely to reach 2% by the end of the year.
Mr Samma said there was a small possibility of a rise at the next meeting on Aug 25, although this would depend on second-quarter economic figures and inflation trends for July. The National Economic and Social Development Board is to release official second-quarter growth figures on Aug 23.
"If the second quarter GDP figure turns out as good as the [12% rise posted] in the first quarter, or if July inflation spikes, we could see an [interest rate] move in August," he said.
But the property market is unlikely to be affected by rising rates until 2011, when short-term rates could reach as high as 3% by mid-year or in the third quarter.
Homebuyers with existing mortgages will pay more on floating-rate loans. New borrowers, meanwhile, will likely face lower borrowing limits, potentially pushing buyers toward the lower end of the market.
"[The rate trend] will likely affect private banks more than state-owned ones, as the state banks primarily focus on the lower- to middle-income segment," said Mr Samma.
Price hikes by developers, meanwhile, will be constrained by high market competition, even as funding costs and other expenses rise, resulting in lower profit margins.
"Although earlier this year we heard some developers discussing possible price rises of up to 7%, in reality it's difficult to raise prices amid such intense competition," he said.
Khan Prachuabmoh, the president of the GH Bank, said the state-owned bank would seek to maintain its loan rates until the end of the year. He said the bank had ample liquidity with no need to lift deposit rates.
But a rate hike would be considered if the bank saw deposit outflows to other institutions, Mr Khan added.
He said purchasing power remained strong in the market even with the recent expiration of tax incentives for the property market, with the GH Bank recording 20 billion baht in new home loans for June alone.
The bank, one of the country's largest mortgage lenders, will maintain a full-year loan target of 90 billion baht. In the first half, GH Bank extended 50 billion baht in new loans.
